We spent the late morning and early afternoon exploring the ruins of Pompeii and then back to Sorrento for a late afternoon lunch (@ 3:00 PM....Rich thought he was going to starve!). The mornings and evenings here have been relatively cool, but midday has been nice and warm (mid-70's). I may have to buy some longer pants for our evening strolls, however, as I wore a dress to dinner last night and it was downright chilly!!
Pompeii was much the same as we remembered it, but we still enjoyed walking the cobblestone streets and imagining what Roman life must have been like 2000 years ago. We toured the public baths, saw the Roman equivalent of a fast-food joint, strolled through a 27,000 square foot, 40-room mansion, and even wandered through one of the many brothels in town (with its stone beds and stone pillows...must not have been very comfortable).
Scenes of Pompeii
It's 6:45 PM as I write this and already fairly dark outside. I'm looking out our balcony toward the sea where I can see Mt. Vesuvius and the lights of Ercolano across the Bay of Naples. Rich just woke from a short nap, so we'll probably head back out and wander through some of the Sorrento shops that were closed earlier this afternoon. Somewhere along the way, we'll find something for dinner....a nice, fresh caprese salad sounds wonderful!
Sounds great! I think someone should try carbonara in Sorrento and report back...
